Coming this October the Astronomical Society of East Texas (ASET) is proud to collaborate with the Astronomical Association of America (AAS) for their 2026 Shapley Lecture Series. The AAS is sending out 21 astronomers to 17 different destinations throughout the United States to give talks about different topics in Astronomy. Each presentation will be given in a way that anyone will be able to enjoy and gain important information from.Â
Tyler Texas is one of those lucky destinations with Dr. Angela Speck (pictured 2nd row in the center), professor at The University of Texas at San Antonio. Speck is originally from the United Kingsom where she studied Astrophysics at Queen Mary University of London for her undergraduate degree. She then proceeded to go on to at University College London for her P.h.D is Astronomy, her thesis being "The Minerology of Dust Around Evolved Stars" (1998). Her research focuses in on the study of infrared light as it relates to star dust. Star Dust being essential to the formation of planets, stars, and other cosmis objects. She uses spectroscopy, imaging, and modelling to study the chemical composition of stars.
